Imogene Pass is a high mountain pass located in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, connecting the towns of Telluride and Ouray.

Imogene Pass is accessible from Telluride via Imogene Pass Road (County Road 22). The distance from Telluride to the pass summit is approximately 17 miles. The road is unpaved and requires a high-clearance, 4WD vehicle. Parking is limited at the summit and along the route. Public transport does not service Imogene Pass.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Imogene Pass Road was originally a mining trail, developed in the late 19th century to access mining claims in the area. The pass itself is a natural geological feature formed by glacial erosion and uplift of the San Juan Mountains.

Driving the pass offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Hiking opportunities exist along sections of the road and adjacent trails. Photography is a primary activity due to the expansive vistas. The ruins of the Tomboy Mine are located near the pass.

The pass is typically open from late May or early June through October, depending on snow conditions. The best time of day for photography is generally mid-morning or late afternoon for optimal lighting. High-clearance, 4WD vehicles are required for safe passage.
Facts & Legends
The pass is named after Imogene, the daughter of a prominent mine owner in the area. A local legend suggests that the ghost of a miner still roams the Tomboy Mine area.
