Public transport is provided by the Galloping Goose bus service, with routes connecting Telluride and Mountain Village at regular intervals. A free gondola system operates between the two locations, offering an alternative mode of transport and scenic views.

Mountain Village was conceived and developed in the late 1980s as a base for the Telluride Ski Resort. The original purpose was to create a self-contained residential and commercial hub to support the growing tourism industry.
