LeBauer Park, Greensboro, USA North Carolina, North America

Overview

LeBauer Park, at 208 North Davie Street in downtown Greensboro, buzzes with energy and serves many purposes, from quiet lawn picnics to lively weekend concerts.Opened in August 2016, the park quickly became the heart of downtown’s revival, offering a bright, modern space where people can stroll through gardens, admire public art, join community events, or simply rest on a sun-warmed bench.A generous $10 million gift from Carolyn Weill LeBauer’s estate made it possible, and today Greensboro Downtown Parks, Inc.runs it, keeping the walks shaded and the lawns trimmed.Working alongside the City of Greensboro, shoulder to shoulder.LeBauer Park covers about four acres, blending open lawns with the bustle of the city and weaving greenery into its lively streetscape.Working closely with local stakeholders, landscape architecture firm Cooper Robertson & Partners designed a layout that works for everyday activities and can handle big community gatherings, from weekend markets to outdoor concerts.Greensboro’s downtown cultural district wraps around the park, with landmarks like the Greensboro Cultural Center and the Central Library just steps away, so it’s easy to reach and perfectly placed for both locals and visitors. The park’s standout sight is “Where We Met,” a massive sculpture by renowned artist Janet Echelman that hangs like a drifting net in the air.Suspended above the Great Lawn, the netted aerial sculpture nods to Greensboro’s past-its hum of looms in the textile mills and the steady rumble of trains through the old railway hub.At night, light washes over the sculpture, throwing bursts of color onto the wall and wrapping the scene in a strange, dreamlike glow.Main amenities and standout features, like a sunlit reading nook by the window.Right in the center of the park, the Price/Bryan Performance Place opens onto a 17,000‑square‑foot Great Lawn, wide enough to hold more than 4,000 people and still leave room for a picnic blanket. There’s a stage ready for performances, film nights, and live music, so the space works just as well for big planned events as it does for kicking back with friends on a quiet afternoon.Two.The VF Corporation Plaza & Splash Pad runs from May to September, offering kids a place to dash through sprays of cool water under the summer sun.People flock to it in the summer, especially when Greensboro’s air feels heavy and warm.Number three.Children’s Play Area Bright and inviting, the play zone features modern climbing frames, winding tunnels, and sturdy swings, offering something fun for kids of every age.Shaded benches and soft, cushioned ground let parents sit back in comfort while the kids race across the playground.Number four.Peacehaven Sensory Space stands out among public parks, offering a calm, light-filled spot created specifically to help people with sensory processing challenges. The space features textured walls, soft calming tones, and interactive pieces that invite you to feel their shapes and listen to gentle sounds, creating playful therapy for people of every age and ability.Five.Named for Carolyn LeBauer, Carolyn’s Garden offers winding paths, carefully tended blooms, and quiet corners where the scent of lilies drifts through the air.Tucked inside the park’s lively buzz, it offers a calm retreat where people linger with a book, snap photos of blooming flowers, or simply sit and think.Number six.Downtown Dog Park has a fenced, off-leash space with one side for small pups and another for the big ones.Waste stations, benches, and plenty of shade make it easy for pet owners to stop, chat, and linger under the cool canopy of a tree.Seven.Scattered around the park, you’ll find free-to-use games-ping-pong tables with paddles ready, foosball, cornhole boards, even chess stations-inviting people to join in, laugh, and connect.Eight.The park’s dining spots include Ghassan’s Fresh Mediterranean Eats and Café Europa, where you can grab crisp salads, hot sandwiches, cold drinks, or a quick snack between activities. On weekends and during special events, local food trucks roll in and line the edge of the park, their grills sending up the smell of sizzling tacos.LeBauer Park is buzzing year-round, hosting over 400 free events-from outdoor concerts to family movie nights-making it one of Greensboro’s busiest public spots.Working with more than 100 local groups, we host a wide mix of events-live music echoing through evening streets, outdoor movies under the stars, vibrant cultural festivals and food fairs, energizing yoga and fitness classes, hands-on art workshops and cozy reading circles for families, plus bustling holiday markets and seasonal celebrations.Every gathering is welcoming, easy to join, and built to bring neighbors together while supporting community wellness. The park is open every day from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., with the splash pad running seasonally from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Restrooms are clean, ADA-accessible, and easy to find.Street parking and nearby public decks make getting here simple.Pets are welcome throughout the park-just keep them leashed unless you’re in the dog area.Smooth, wide paths and thoughtfully designed spaces ensure visitors with mobility or sensory needs can enjoy every corner. In short, LeBauer Park offers a fresh take on city public space-an inviting mix of art, green design, and open lawns where people can unwind, wander, and share in the local culture. You might spread a blanket on the lawn for a concert, watch the kids squeal under the splash pad’s jets, wander quietly through Carolyn’s Garden, or pause at dusk to take in the glow of a towering sculpture-LeBauer Park packs all of it into one vibrant spot in the heart of downtown Greensboro.
