Establishment: Founded in November 1928, the club initially featured a 9-hole course. In 1939, it relocated to its current site in the Matumi Golf Estate. The course was expanded to 18 holes in 1967-68 under the guidance of course designer Robert Grimsdell.
Renaming: In 2017, the club was renamed from Nelspruit Golf Club to Mbombela Golf Club. This change followed an incident involving the alleged assault of a black caddie by four white golfers, prompting the club to rebrand and implement measures to promote inclusivity and diversity.
Course Design and Features
Layout: The course is celebrated for its parkland layout, characterized by undulating fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and fast greens. Designed by Robert Grimsdell and later modified by Peter Matkovitch, it measures 6,074 meters from the men's tees, with a par of 71.
