Crescent Beach is a 3-mile stretch of coastline located on Block Island, New Shoreham, Rhode Island.

Location & Access Logistics

Crescent Beach is situated on the southeastern coast of Block Island. It is accessible via Corn Neck Road. From the ferry terminal in Old Harbor, it is approximately a 2-mile drive north. Parking is available at designated lots along Corn Neck Road. The Block Island Ferry is the primary mode of transport to the island; once on the island, walking, cycling, or taxi services are available. Bus route 1 serves the area during peak season.

Crescent Beach is a natural formation, part of the coastal erosion and deposition processes characteristic of the Atlantic coastline. Its sandy composition is derived from the breakdown of local glacial deposits and offshore sediment transport.

Restrooms are located at the northern and southern access points. Limited shade is available from natural dune formations. Cell phone signal (4G) is generally available. Food vendors are not present directly on the beach but are available in nearby New Shoreham town.

For photography, early morning or late afternoon provides optimal lighting. The best months for weather are June through September. High tide can reduce the available beach width.

Facts & Legends

A local anecdote suggests that during certain low tides, remnants of shipwrecks from the 18th century can be observed in the shallow waters off the southern end of the beach.
