Ample on-site parking is available for vehicles. No direct public transport services the park; private vehicle or taxi is required.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The locomotive, No. 190 "General" and No. 12 "Yukon," were originally built for the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad (ET&WNC) in 1917 and 1943, respectively. The ET&WNC operated a narrow-gauge line for freight and passenger service. Tweetsie Railroad was established in 1957 to preserve this railway heritage.

Best Time to Visit

The park operates seasonally, typically from April through October. The best time of day for photography of the train is mid-morning or late afternoon when the sun angle is lower. Weather is generally most favorable during late spring and early autumn, avoiding the peak summer heat and humidity.

Facts & Legends

The original ET&WNC line was nicknamed "Tweetsie" due to the distinctive whistle sound of its locomotives. A specific local legend suggests that the ghost of a former engineer can sometimes be seen tending to the locomotive after hours.
