Visual Characteristics

The park covers an area of approximately 100,000 square meters. It features a central lawn, walking paths constructed from interlocking concrete pavers, and a variety of mature trees, including Ghaf trees (Prosopis cineraria), date palms (Phoenix dactylifera), and various flowering shrubs. The park incorporates themed gardens, such as a botanical garden and a children's garden, with distinct landscaping elements. A prominent feature is the large, geodesic-domed botanical garden housing diverse plant species.

Umm Al Emarat Park is situated at the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street (Old Airport Road) and Al Karamah Street. It is approximately 5 kilometers east of the Abu Dhabi Corniche. Ample parking is available within designated lots surrounding the park perimeter. Public bus routes serving the area include lines 5, 11, 32, and 40, with stops located within a 5-minute walk of the park entrances.

Historical & Ecological Origin

Originally established in 1989 as Mushrif Central Park, the site underwent a significant redevelopment and was reopened as Umm Al Emarat Park in 2015. The park's design emphasizes the preservation and integration of existing mature trees, particularly the native Ghaf tree, which is the national tree of the UAE. The ecological focus is on creating a sustainable urban green lung, incorporating drought-tolerant species and water-efficient irrigation systems.

Key Highlights & Activities

Visitors can engage in walking and jogging on the paved pathways. The park includes a dedicated children's play area with various equipment. A small animal farm houses domestic animals. The botanical garden offers a controlled environment for plant observation. An amphitheater hosts occasional events. A weekly farmers' market operates on Fridays from October to April.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Restrooms are available at multiple locations throughout the park. Shaded seating areas are provided under pergolas and mature trees. Wi-Fi service is accessible in designated zones. Several food and beverage kiosks are located within the park, and larger dining establishments are situated in the immediate vicinity outside the park boundaries. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally strong throughout the park.

Best Time to Visit

The park is open daily from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM. For photography, early morning (8:00 AM - 10:00 AM) and late afternoon (4:00 PM - 6:00 PM) offer optimal natural light. The most comfortable months for outdoor activities are from October to April, when temperatures are milder. No specific tide requirements apply.

Facts & Legends

The park's redevelopment prioritized the preservation of over 200 mature Ghaf trees, some estimated to be over 50 years old. These trees are adapted to arid conditions and are culturally significant in the UAE.
