Construction of Yas Marina Circuit commenced in 2007 and was completed in 2009. The circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke. Its original purpose was to host the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and other international motorsport events, aiming to boost tourism and establish Abu Dhabi as a global sporting destination. The site is reclaimed land adjacent to the natural coastline of the Persian Gulf.
