Becici Beach, Budva, Montenegro, Europe
Bečići Beach (Bečićka plaža) is a significant coastal landmark located approximately 2 kilometers east of Budva. It is geographically separated from Budva by the Zavala Peninsula.
Visual Characteristics
The beach spans roughly 1.8 kilometers in a wide, crescent shape. The shoreline consists of a specific multicolored "Bečići pebble"-a mix of fine sand and small, rounded stones. The water is noted for high transparency and a deep blue color. The backdrop is dominated by luxury high-rise hotels and the limestone peaks of the Lovćen mountain range.
Location & Access Logistics
Bečići is situated in the settlement of the same name.
Pedestrian: Accessible from Budva via a seaside promenade and two illuminated tunnels through the Zavala Peninsula (15–20 minute walk).
Driving: Located directly off the Adriatic Highway (E65).
Parking: Several large paid parking lots serve the beachfront; many are affiliated with the major hotels (e.g., Hotel Splendid, Hotel Mediteran).
Public Transit: Frequent local Mediterranean Express buses run between Budva and Bečići.
Historical & Economic Origin
In 1935, Bečići Beach was awarded the "Grand Prix" in Paris as the most beautiful beach in Europe. Historically a fishing village, the area underwent massive development in the 1960s and 1970s, and again in the 2000s, becoming the primary luxury hotel hub of the Budva Riviera. It generates a significant portion of the region's tourism revenue.
Key Highlights & Activities
Water Sports: Includes paragliding (landing on the beach from the Brajići hills), water skiing, and jet ski rentals.
Beach Clubs: Numerous high-end venues offer sunbed rentals and organized entertainment.
Children's Facilities: The wide, sandy-pebble shoreline makes it a preferred destination for families.
Infrastructure & Amenities
The beach is exceptionally well-equipped:
Connectivity: Consistent 4G/5G cellular coverage.
Services: Showers, changing cabins, and public restrooms are distributed along the promenade.
Dining: A continuous line of restaurants and bars ranges from fast food to fine dining.
Accommodations: Direct beach access is provided by several five-star resorts.
Best Time to Visit
The beach is most favorable during the morning (08:00–11:00) for calm water and maximum space. Unlike Mogren or Jaz, Bečići remains bright and sunny until late evening due to its south-facing orientation and open bay.
Facts & Legends
Local geological history notes that the unique composition of the Bečići pebbles is a result of millennia of alluvial deposits from the surrounding mountain streams. The beach is a repeat recipient of the Blue Flag for environmental standards and water quality.
