Fargo Walk of Fame, Fargo, USA North Dakota, North America

The Fargo Walk of Fame, located just outside the Fargo–Moorhead Visitors Center, is a lighthearted and uniquely local tribute to celebrity culture with a distinctly North Dakotan twist. Created in the late 1980s, this outdoor exhibit features the handprints and footprints of more than 100 notable figures-from actors and musicians to athletes, writers, and political leaders-immortalized in concrete for fans to see.

Origins and History
The Walk of Fame was the brainchild of Mike Stevens, a Fargo businessman and fan of popular culture. What began in 1989 as a quirky idea to bring a touch of Hollywood to the prairie soon grew into a beloved roadside attraction. Stevens personally collected the celebrity impressions, often during visits or special events, then returned the molds to Fargo where they were installed in concrete along the pathway outside the visitor center.

Famous Names and Signatures
Walking along the path, visitors will find an eclectic mix of personalities. Among the most recognizable are Garth Brooks, Neil Diamond, Bill Gates, Dr. Ruth, Debbie Reynolds, Jesse Ventura, Al Roker, and Paul Anka. Even the Coen brothers-directors of the film Fargo-have their place here, connecting the display to the city’s pop-culture fame. Each slab bears the star’s handprint, signature, and sometimes a playful inscription, making it both intimate and spontaneous.

Atmosphere and Experience
The Walk of Fame sits in a casual, open-air setting beside the Woodchipper from Fargo, surrounded by prairie grasses and the easy-going atmosphere of the visitor center. Visitors can stroll between the slabs, tracing their fingers over the impressions or posing beside their favorite celebrity’s mark. There’s something distinctly unpretentious about it-more small-town hospitality than red carpet glitz.

The mix of famous names gives the walkway a personal, almost nostalgic feel, blending pop culture with the friendliness that defines Fargo. The site also continues to grow, with new inductees occasionally added, ensuring it remains a living piece of local charm.

Visitor Highlights
Many stop here as part of their first introduction to Fargo, often pairing it with a photo beside the iconic Fargo woodchipper display just steps away. Free and open to the public year-round, it’s an easy detour that captures the humor and pride of the region.

In Essence
The Fargo Walk of Fame embodies the city’s playful spirit-part tribute, part curiosity, and entirely welcoming. It’s a reminder that Fargo may be far from Hollywood, but it celebrates fame and creativity with its own warmth, humor, and sense of place on the northern plains.
