Gom Kora is a Buddhist temple complex situated in Trashigang District, eastern Bhutan.
This site features a central temple structure and surrounding monastic buildings constructed with local stone and timber, painted in traditional Bhutanese architectural styles with white and ochre color schemes. The main temple is a multi-story structure, approximately 15 meters in height.
Location & Access Logistics
Gom Kora is located 24 kilometers east of Trashigang town. Access is via the East-West Highway (A1). The road is paved and suitable for all vehicle types. Parking is available on-site, with capacity for approximately 30 vehicles. Public transport options include local buses traveling between Trashigang and Wamrong, which stop at the Gom Kora junction. From the junction, it is a 1-kilometer walk to the temple complex.
Historical & Ecological Origin
The site's origin is attributed to Guru Rinpoche, who is said to have meditated here in the 8th century. The current temple structure was built in the 17th century by Tenzin Rabgye, the fourth Desi of Bhutan. It serves as a pilgrimage site and a center for Buddhist practice.

The best time for photography is in the morning between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM, when sunlight illuminates the temple facades. The dry season, from October to April, offers the most favorable weather conditions. The site is accessible year-round.
Facts & Legends
Local legend states that a demon resided in the cave at Gom Kora, and Guru Rinpoche subdued it by meditating there. The large rock in front of the temple is believed to be the petrified body of the demon. Visitors often tie prayer flags to the surrounding trees.
