Khutse Game Reserve is situated approximately 200 kilometers west of Gaborone. Access is via the A1 highway towards Lobatse, then turning onto the A2 towards Kanye. From Kanye, follow the main road towards Molepolole and then take the unpaved track towards Khutse. The final 60 kilometers to the park entrance are on a sand track, requiring a 4x4 vehicle. There is no public transport directly to the reserve. Parking is available at the park entrance and designated campsites.

Khutse Game Reserve was established in 1971. It is part of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve ecosystem, characterized by ancient riverbeds and fossilized lakes. The area is a natural habitat for a variety of Kalahari wildlife, adapted to arid conditions.

Self-drive game viewing is the primary activity. Visitors can observe wildlife such as springbok, gemsbok, wildebeest, and hartebeest. Birdwatching is also possible. Camping is permitted at designated sites within the reserve.

The best time for game viewing is during the dry season, from May to October, when animals congregate around water sources. The cooler months of June to August offer more comfortable temperatures for exploration. The wet season, from November to April, can make some tracks impassable.

Khutse means "to kneel" in Setswana, referring to a place where animals would kneel to drink from a pan. The reserve is known for its large populations of springbok, which can be seen in large herds during favorable conditions.
