Sky Costanera is the tallest building in Chile, located in the Providencia commune of Santiago.
It is the observation deck of the Costanera Center, a mixed-use skyscraper.
Visual Characteristics
The structure is a modern skyscraper with a glass and steel facade. It reaches a height of 300 meters (984 feet). The building features a distinctive pointed spire at its apex.
Location & Access Logistics
Sky Costanera is situated at Avenida Vitacura 3201, within the Costanera Center complex. It is approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) northeast of Santiago's central Plaza de Armas. Access is via Avenida Vitacura or Avenida Providencia. The Costanera Center has an underground parking garage with capacity for several thousand vehicles. Metro Los Leones station (Lines 1 and 6) is directly connected to the complex.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Construction of the Costanera Center began in 2007 and was completed in 2014. The architectural design was led by Argentinian architect César Pelli. The observation deck, Sky Costanera, opened to the public in 2015. The site is located on land previously occupied by a factory.
Key Highlights & Activities
Visitors can ascend to the 61st and 62nd floors for panoramic views of Santiago and the surrounding Andes Mountains. The 360-degree observation deck offers unobstructed vistas. Photography is permitted. Interactive displays provide information about the city's landmarks.
Infrastructure & Amenities
Restrooms are available on the observation deck levels. Limited shaded areas are present within the observation deck. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally strong. Food and beverage options are available within the larger Costanera Center shopping mall, located below the observation deck.
Best Time to Visit
For optimal photography, early morning or late afternoon provides favorable lighting conditions. Clear days are essential for maximum visibility of the Andes. The months of March through May (autumn) and September through November (spring) typically offer the most stable weather patterns with less smog. Mid-day can be crowded.
Facts & Legends
Sky Costanera held the title of the tallest building in South America upon its completion. A local anecdote suggests that on exceptionally clear days, one can see as far as the Pacific Ocean, though this is geographically improbable from this elevation.
