Overview
The Whirlpool Aero Car is a historic cable ride that glides high above the Niagara Whirlpool, giving you sweeping views of the river gorge and the churning, frothy water below. It sits on the Canadian side, yet shares the same rugged cliffs and swirling river views as Whirlpool State Park.Overview: An aerial cable car, or line lift, hangs high above the ground, supported by six sturdy steel cables. It was the work of Spanish engineer Leonardo Torres Quevedo, whose designs once ticked and whirred with precision. We’ve been in business since 1916, back when telephones still had a rotary dial. The route spans the Niagara River Gorge, stretching roughly a kilometer-about 3,600 feet-from one rocky shore to the other. It takes about ten minutes to go there and back-just enough time for the kettle to boil.It can carry up to 35 passengers standing shoulder to shoulder on each trip.Passengers get a rare bird’s-eye view of the Niagara Whirlpool, a swirling 125-foot-deep pool carved where the river whips sharply around a bend in the gorge. On the ride, you’ll catch sweeping views of the churning Whirlpool Rapids and the jagged cliffs that rise sharply around them. From the cable car, you can take in sweeping views without a single thing blocking your sight-perfect for snapping photos or just soaking in the shapes of distant mountains. You’ll find visitor information at 3850 Niagara Parkway in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada-right across the river from Whirlpool State Park, where you can hear the water churning below. The season usually runs from April to November, starting with cool spring mornings and ending as autumn leaves begin to fall. We’re usually open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, though now and then the hours shift.Entry is paid, with different rates for adults and kids-think $10 for grown‑ups, $5 for little ones.Accessibility: Wheelchairs can’t get through. You can park right on-site, just steps from the entrance. The Whirlpool Aero Car offers a rush of excitement and a lesson in nature, gliding you high above the roaring turquoise waters and revealing the raw power and layered rock of the Niagara River Gorge. It adds to the hiking trails and lookout spots at Whirlpool State Park on the U. S. side, giving visitors a chance to take in the same roaring rapids from high above.Visitors to the Niagara region flock to this aerial line lift, where rust-red cables carry them over the gorge, blending history, engineering, and the river’s wild beauty into one unforgettable ride.
