Physical & Material Composition The building is a two-story Gothic structure featuring a rectangular footprint and a high-pitched roof covered in clay tiles. The facade is constructed from limestone masonry and brick, finished with a smooth lime-based plaster.
The main portal consists of a pointed Gothic arch with stone moldings. A vaulted hallway leads to an interior courtyard, characterized by stone corbels and timber-framed ceilings.
Geographical Location The house is located at Strada Matei Corvin, No. 6, within the northern sector of the old city walls. It is positioned 120 meters northwest of Union Square and 200 meters south of the Someșul Mic River.
Access Logistics Entry is gained through the central arched gateway on the western facade. The site is located 100 meters from the "Piața Unirii" bus terminal, accessible via the 24B and 30 bus lines.
Historical Markers Construction of the original core occurred in the early 15th century. Matthias Corvinus, son of John Hunyadi, was born in this building on February 23, 1443.
King Matthias issued a tax-exemption decree for the house in 1467. The building was later utilized as a hospital and subsequently as the headquarters for the University of Art and Design.
Insider Observation A bronze plaque mounted on the exterior wall features an inscription in Latin and Romanian. Small, 15th-century stone carvings of floral motifs are located on the interior corbels of the ground-floor vaulting.
Surrounding Environmental Context The Museum Square (Piața Muzeului) is located 50 meters to the north. Adjacent structures include the Franciscan Church and the History Museum of Transylvania.
