A large, free asphalt parking lot is located at the base of the cable car. The drive from Ljubljana takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes via the A2 motorway and the Bled-Bohinj regional road.

The original cable car was constructed in 1964 to establish the Vogel mountain range as a winter sports destination. The current system is a modern Dopplemayr installation completed in 2001, designed for high-wind stability and rapid transport. The upper station sits in a high-altitude karst environment characterized by dwarf pines and alpine limestone pavement.

The cable car provides rapid access to the Vogel Ski Resort for downhill skiing and snowboarding in winter.
