La Trinidad Strawberry Farm, Baguio, Philippines, Asia
The La Trinidad Strawberry Farm is a vast agricultural area in Benguet, primarily managed by the Benguet State University and local farmers. It is the most famous location in the Philippines for strawberry cultivation and agritourism.
Visual Characteristics
The site is a wide, flat valley floor divided into numerous rectangular plots. During the harvest season, the landscape is covered in low-lying green strawberry plants, often protected by plastic mulching or tunnels. The perimeter is lined with souvenir stalls, colorful signage, and a large open-air market. The surrounding hills of La Trinidad provide a stark mountainous backdrop to the verdant fields.
Location & Access Logistics
Address: Strawberry Farm Rd, La Trinidad, 2601 Benguet.
Access: Located approximately 6 kilometers north of Baguio City center.
Transport: Accessible via jeepneys labeled "La Trinidad" from the Baguio City Public Market or along Magsaysay Avenue. Taxis are also a common and efficient way to reach the farm from Baguio.
Entry: Entrance to the general area is free, but a fee is required if you choose to participate in "pick-your-own" activities.
Historical & Ecological Origin
The farm is situated in the fertile swamp area of La Trinidad. It serves as a research and production site for Benguet State University. The temperate climate and volcanic soil of the valley make it one of the few places in the tropical Philippines capable of large-scale strawberry production.
Key Highlights & Activities
Strawberry Picking: The main attraction where visitors can harvest fresh strawberries. Prices are typically higher per kilogram than in the market due to the "experience" and potential damage to plants.
Strawberry Sorbet and Taho: Vendors throughout the farm sell unique strawberry-infused snacks, most notably strawberry ice cream and warm strawberry taho.
Giant Strawberry Cake Landmark: A tribute to the town's Guinness World Record for the largest strawberry shortcake.
Souvenir Shopping: A major hub for purchasing strawberry-related products like jam, wine, and preserves, as well as highland vegetables (lettuce, broccoli, etc.) at farm-gate prices.
Infrastructure & Amenities
The area features a large paved parking lot, public restrooms (for a fee), and numerous kiosks. The paths between the plots can be muddy, especially during the rainy season. 5G cellular coverage is reliable.
Best Time to Visit
The strawberry harvest season runs from November to May, with the peak occurring between February and March (coinciding with the Panagbenga Festival and the La Trinidad Strawberry Festival). It is best to arrive early in the morning (07:00–09:00) to avoid the heat and secure the best berries before they are picked by other tourists.
Facts & Legends
La Trinidad is officially recognized as the "Strawberry Capital of the Philippines." In 2004, the town earned a Guinness World Record by baking a strawberry shortcake that weighed 21,229 lbs (9,622 kg).
