The Mansion, Baguio, Philippines, Asia

The Mansion is the official summer residence of the President of the Philippines, located along C.P. Romulo Drive in Baguio City.

Visual Characteristics

The estate is characterized by a grand, white two-story Spanish Colonial-style building. Its most iconic visual feature is the ornate main gate, a massive iron structure modeled after the gates of Buckingham Palace in London. The building is fronted by an expansive, manicured lawn known as the "Pool of Pines" area, which is lined with mature Benguet pine trees.

Location & Access Logistics

Address: Romulo Dr, Baguio, 2600 Benguet.

Access: Located directly across from Wright Park.

Transport: Take a jeepney from the Baguio City Public Market or Session Road labeled "Mines View" or "Pacdal."

Entry: The interior of the residence is generally closed to the public unless it is designated for a museum tour. However, visitors are permitted to enter the gate to take photos on the front lawn up to a certain point.

Historical & Ecological Origin

Built in 1908, the structure originally served as the summer home for U.S. Governors-General. It was severely damaged during World War II and rebuilt in 1947. Since then, it has been used by various Philippine presidents for official functions and summer retreats. Ecologically, the property is part of Baguio's critical pine forest cover.

Key Highlights & Activities

The Main Gate: The primary site for photography; it remains one of the most photographed landmarks in the city.

Presidential Museum: Some sections of the guest house now serve as a museum housing presidential memorabilia.

Photography: The long driveway and symmetrical facade provide a classic backdrop for tourists.

Infrastructure & Amenities

The site is highly secured with active presidential guards. Public restrooms and food stalls are not located within the gated grounds but are available immediately outside at Wright Park. 5G cellular coverage is excellent.

Best Time to Visit

The gates are generally open to tourists during daylight hours, typically 09:00 to 15:00. Visit during the early morning to capture the building with the morning mist and fewer crowds.

Facts & Legends

It is said that the gate was intended to be so grand that it would command respect for the office of the Governor-General. During official presidential visits, the security perimeter expands, and public access to the front lawn may be restricted.
