Historical & Ecological Origin

The site was formerly occupied by the Staten Island Rapid Transit Railway Company's St. George Yard and a portion of the former Richmond County Courthouse. Construction of the Empire Outlets began in 2015, with the project aiming to revitalize the St. George waterfront area. The original purpose was to create a destination for retail, dining, and entertainment, intended to draw visitors and residents to the area.

Key Highlights & Activities

Shopping at over 100 retail stores, including designer and brand-name outlets. Dining at various restaurants and food vendors. Access to the Staten Island Ferry terminal for transit to Manhattan. Viewing of the New York Harbor from the waterfront promenade. The complex includes a 195-room hotel and a 6-screen cinema.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Restrooms are available throughout the complex. Designated shaded areas are present in outdoor plazas. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally strong within the complex. Food vendors and restaurants are located on multiple levels. The on-site parking garage offers charging stations for electric vehicles.

Best Time to Visit

For optimal lighting for photography of the harbor views, early morning or late afternoon is recommended. Weekday mornings generally offer fewer crowds for shopping. The complex is open year-round, with extended hours during holiday seasons.

Facts & Legends

A unique aspect of the development is its proximity to the historic St. George Theatre, a restored 1929 movie palace. The project was designed to integrate with the existing transit infrastructure, making it a convenient stop for ferry commuters.
