The Yerevan Operetta Theatre was designed by architect Gevorg Tamanyan and constructed between 1937 and 1940. Its original purpose was to house the Armenian State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, which it did until the current Opera House was completed in 1949. Subsequently, it became the home of the Yerevan State Operetta Theatre.
