Trajan's Column Replica, Bucharest, Romania, Europe
Physical & Material Composition The replica is a full-scale plaster and cement reproduction of the original Roman monument. It consists of 125 distinct cast segments representing the helical frieze which depicts the Daco-Roman Wars.
The casts are mounted on a specialized steel support frame within the museum's Lapidarium hall. The total height of the frieze documentation, if laid flat, extends over 190 meters in length.
Geographical Coordinates The artifact is housed within the central hall of the National Museum of Romanian History at 44.4315° N, 26.0975° E. It occupies the ground floor Lapidarium wing on the western side of the building.
Access Logistics Internal access requires a specific ticket for the National Treasury and Lapidarium sections. The hall is wheelchair accessible via a ramp located on the left side of the main lobby.
Historical Markers The casts were produced between 1939 and 1943 at the Vatican Museum workshops under the order of the Romanian state. The segments were transported to Bucharest in 1967 and installed for the museum's inauguration in 1972.
Insider Observation Segment 42 of the frieze shows a 3cm repair patch where the plaster was reinforced during the 1970 installation. Detailed Latin inscriptions on the base segment identify the specific workshop artisans from Rome.
Surrounding Environmental Context The replica is surrounded by original stone artifacts, including the "Pietroasele Treasure" vault and various 2nd-century Roman tombstones. The hall features climate control sensors calibrated to maintain a constant 20°C temperature.
